Scripture reveals to us a truth that at our core many of us already know. That truth is that there is more to us than just our physical body.
Throughout time, and over the entire world, mankind has always had a sense that there is more than the physical world around us.
In the beginning, God put into place the biological miracle that allows us to procreate. For every person conceived, it is God that fills that body with our soul-spirit. Our soul, every single one of us, is an individual creation of Jehovah the Creator. “And the Lord GOD formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” — Genesis 2:7
Our bodies are a mere container for our soul-spirit. In time, our bodies will age and eventually die. Our spirit once created, will continue on for as long as God wills. The difficult question is for how long will God allow my spirit to exist?
That depends in part on you. God desires to have a relationship with you. A long, long, long, relationship.. as in eternity.
But, God isn’t going to allow a soul who has rejected Him, or rebels against Him, to remain with Him for eternity. The bible is clear that those souls will be sent away from God forever. “But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars–their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” — Revelation 21:8
