The gospel is the central message of salvation: Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. His resurrection proves that He has power over sin and death, giving hope and eternal life to all who believe in Him. Humanity is incapable of saving ourselves through our own works.
What is Sin?
Anything we think, say, or do that goes against God and his commandments (Exodus 20:1-17)
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (KJV)
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
God is perfectly holy, righteous, and worthy of worship, yet He also deeply loves the world. His holiness shows that sin cannot be ignored, while His love moved Him to provide his Son, a Savior -- Jesus Christ to take the punishment for our sin.
John 3:16 (KJV)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Revelation 4:8 (KJV)
8 Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
Every person has sinned and fallen short of God’s perfect standard. Just as breaking a law makes someone accountable before a human judge, our sin makes us accountable before God—the righteous Judge. Because God is holy and just, sin deserves judgment and brings death. This shows that we cannot save ourselves through good works, morality, or religion; we need a Savior.
Romans 3:23 (KJV)
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
Romans 6:23 (KJV)
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The cross is where God demonstrated the depth of His love for sinners like us! While we were still separated from Him, Christ died in our place, paying the penalty for sin and making forgiveness and reconciliation with God possible. Salvation is not something we can earn—it is God’s gracious gift, made possible through Jesus’ sacrifice.
Romans 5:8 (KJV)
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
The gospel calls for a personal response: trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Saving faith is more than knowing facts about Jesus; it is relying on Him alone for forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life. We receive salvation as a gift from God by faith, not by our own good works or efforts.
Acts 16:31 (KJV)
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
God has shown His love through Jesus Christ. Because we are sinners, we deserve judgment—but Jesus died and rose again so that salvation could be offered as a free gift. Today, turn from trusting in yourself and place your faith in Jesus Christ alone. Receive His forgiveness, follow Him as Lord, and begin the new life He offers.
